Atelier Ryza to Feature Faster-Paced Battle System, Gathering Spot Creation

Koei-Tecmo and Gust Studios revealed more gameplay details for the newest entry in the Atelier series: Atelier Ryza – Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout. Not every new feature was revealed of course, but it looks like there will be two notable new changes coming with the game that’ll set it apart from all its predecessors. Take a quick look in the trailer below!

It seems Gust Studios have made a number of changes aimed at making Atelier Ryza a fresh experience for longtime fans. First, players will be able to create and share their own unique gathering locations. Use special bottle items and secret ingredients of their own choosing, players can create anything from an impressive forest to an imposing lava field. Both even have their uses depending on the materials one needs, so there’s plenty of reasons to explore all options.

The other big change is seen in the battle system. Now, battles will progress even while character actions are being chosen. Players can still act outside of their turns, but doing so now will cost action points and thus have to be done more strategically. Party member will also have the ability to give orders to the other characters and follow-up those attacks with strikes of their own. It’s still the basic Atelier combat system, but done at greater speed with more emphasis on quick-thinking.

Atelier Ryza – Ever Darkness and the Secret Hideout launches for PC, PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch on October 29. Check out our review for Nelke and the Legendary Alchemists for a basic idea of the kind of experience this series offers.
