While all aspects didn’t necessarily shine or excel completely, where and when it mattered, Gunfire Games’ latest take on combining contemporary action RPG’s, with guns — in the form of Remnant: From the Ashes — was enjoyable nonetheless. And it would appear that unspoken demand for a challenging RPG that incorporates guns, has been met with a commendable commercial response too. The developers announced today that Remnant has reached the coveted milestone of selling over one million copies since it launched late last August.
Today’s announcement comes on the back of what the studio has announced will be a gradual dishing out of additional post-launch content for the game. And following the game’s recent additions of an Adventure Mode — whereby players could more easily challenge those bosses they missed in their originally-rolled campaign run — the game will, starting tomorrow, be receiving a harder difficulty level dubbed Hardcore Mode. As with most “high difficulty” modes/updates as of late, one hit means permanant death and a player losing that character for good, though Gunfire do state the rewards for beating bosses in this mode, will not only be better, but can be carried across to other character builds.
The studio also claim a new “Survival” update will follow suit to release in Spring of next year, with more content to follow in late 2020. While this is all technically laid out as part of the game’s roadmap, details are still incredibly thin as to what fans of the game can expect going into 2020. Even so, from what we played of it originally — and continue to play of it as well — Gunfire have clearly nailed the areas which matter most in a game of this ilk, namely the gunplay itself and of the gameplay loop players will follow as they travel from one ravished planet to the next. Remnant: From the Ashes is available across PS4, Xbox One & PC.
