Sega and developer Ryu Ga Gotoku have released a new ten-minute-plus, story-focused trailer detailing a bit more about Yakuza’s next bulky mainline entrant. The first to move away from the staple streets of Kamurocho following last year’s Yakuza 6: The Song of Life — instead this time taking place in the city of Yokohama — with focus this time on new protagonist Ichiban Kasuga, the assumption was that 2020’s instalment would be the first without regular protagonist Kazuma Kiryu in the fray. However, whether it’s some manner of trickery, red herring, flash-back or similarly goofy charade alike, it appears we haven’t seen the last of Kiryu.
Leading up to the trailer’s final moment — surprisingly without much of a build-up, instead cutting straight into showing it — it shows what looks to be Kiryu and Kasuga facing off one-on-one. Sadly, the trailer isn’t subtitled least for the time being, but as to be expected, plenty of new characters — good and bad alike — are shown off in what looks to be another lengthy and winding narrative, coinciding with a radical departure on the gameplay front, to compliment the new setting. Taking instead to turn-based battles, rather than the typical, real-time brawling. Yakuza: Like A Dragon is planned to release in North America and Europe, sometime in 2020 for PS4.
