Pokémon Sword, Shield Worldwide Sales Surpass 6 Million Units

Nintendo today announced that worldwide sales for Pokémon Sword and Shield have surpassed 6 million units.

Pokémon games are always guaranteed hits, but the latest titles in the franchise, Sword and Shield, have crushed expectations. Since their November 15 launch, the titles have sold 6 million units worldwide. It is now the fastest-selling Nintendo Switch game, and crushed Super Smash Bros. Ultimate’s 5 million unit launch.

Of those 6 million units, 2 million came from the U.S. during first two days. In total, Sword and Shield is now the highest-grossing franchise launch of all time.

“This past weekend, millions of people began their Pokémon journeys through the new Galar region,” said Nick Chavez, Nintendo of America’s Senior Vice President of Sales and Marketing. “With such a momentous launch, Pokémon Sword and Pokémon Shield have proven to be two of the must-have games this holiday season.”

Pokémon Sword and Shield are available now on the Nintendo Switch. Counting these latest results, the core Pokémon franchise has sold a staggering 240 million units worldwide.
