Canadian developer Extremely OK Games have today announced the name, as well as the vaguest of details, to their next project. Formerly Matt Makes Games — up until its restructure and rebranding in September 2019 — the team behind previous successes TowerFall and Celeste, are hard at work on what the studio describes as a “2D explor-action game in a seamless pixel art world” titled Earthblade. But other than this brief descriptor as well as a roughly-90 second tone piece, there’s nothing else we have so far as key details are concerned — the team, as they elaborate on, hoping to provide a grander reveal for an unconfirmed date later down the line.
However Earthblade shapes up, needless to say the team have quite the expectations to meet if their last major release, 2018’s Celeste, is anything to go by. You may recall that one of the first releases of that calendar year, actually turned out to be quite good by all accounts. So good it ended up on a fair few of our end of year deliberations/celebrations. We’ll be sure to keep an eye on Earthblade and whatever Extremely OK see fit to reveal of the game in the near future.
