Last month, Beyond: Two Souls/Heavy Rain/Indigo Prophecy developer Quantic Dream piqued our interest with the tease that they would be announcing “Some great news coming in January!” We were atwitter with what this tease could be. With both a PS4 port of Beyond heavily rumored and a the fact that they are working on a new PS4 game led us to believe that one of the two would be revealed, both of which would be great. Besides a post in memorial of the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks, the developer has been quiet until today when they made an announcement: Christopher Schmitz would be joining Quantic Dream.

Schmitz is a well-respected developer with 22 years of game development experience and Quantic Dream seems to be treating it as a big event complete with a statement from CEO Guillaume de Fondaumière stating “It is a pleasure and an honor to work for one of the most renowned AAA game development studios in Europe, said Chistopher Schmitz. Due to QD track record and experience in the creation of benchmark products it was just a perfect and natural choice for me!”

With all due respect to, Schmitz, however, was this the "great news" the company was teasing? It's great news for them, sure, but they didn't exactly hire Tim Schafer and hiring is more internal news than news that interests outside interests.

The company was quick to follow-up the post by commenting "Stay put for other exciting news this month/this year!" but the fact that we're halfway through January and they said "this year" makes us think that this was their big announcement after all.

Hopefully that's not the case.
