Released in 2007, Earth Defense Force 2017 has grown into something of a cult classic. A very divisive game both critically (we awarded it a 2.25/5  at launch) and commercially, it's certainly an interesting choice for a game to port five years after release. While the core of the game remains the same, new additions to the PS Vita release include online co-op and new missions, enemies and weapons.

The plot of EDF can literally be descibed in one sentence: In 2017, an alien race named "The Ravagers" come to destroy earth and can only be stopped by the Earth Defense Force. It's a plot as wacky as the game itself. While the unconverted will likely remain that way, the game will certainly benefit from online four player co-op. With Monster Hunter, Ragarock, Silent Hill: Book of Memories and now EDF2017, the PS Vita seems to be carving a niche as the debut handheld for online co-op.

New to the game is Pale Wing, a flying female character with unique abilities. She will add an entirely new aspect to the game, complete with appealing gear such as a rapier and laser rifle.

Earth Defense Force 2017 Portable is set to debut sometime this winter.
