How to Kill the Abhorrent Beast in Bloodborne

If we were to rank all of Bloodborne‘s campaign and Chalice Dungeon bosses in terms of difficulty, the Abhorrent Beast would likely wind up on top. Not only is it basically impossible to pull of a Visceral Attack on this electrically-charged foe, but it seems as though every attempt to get behind it leads to a massive player health loss. After countless attempts at thwarting this devilish beast, a series of strategies for victory, some cheaper than others, have emerged. We know you’re likely stuck on this particular boss if you’re anyone other than the top Bloodborne players out there, so without further ado, here’s how to defeat the dreaded Abhorrent Beast.

First and foremost, if you don’t have a full supply of Blood Vials, you’re doing yourself a grave injustice. Because a great deal of your attacks are going to involve some sort of risk-taking (unless you’re using a +9 or above Cannon), it helps to spam as many healing potions as possible. If you’ve acquired the ability to purchase Poison Knives from the Messengers (this can be done after obtaining the Cosmic Eye Watcher Badge from the Upper Cathedral Ward), you’re going to want to purchase at least 14 of these. The Abhorrent Beast can be poisoned with enough Poison Knives, and those who accomplish this will only have to run around the battle arena until the boss dies in order to achieve victory. Of course, this is definitely the quick and dirty way out (as is leaving your PS4 on for twelve hours in order to use the weakening glitch), but players who don’t have the Cosmic Eye Watcher Badge can definitely still defeat the Abhorrent Beast. Granted, it’s going to be a lot more challenging, and it’s going to involve memorizing attack patterns, but it can certainly be done.

After memorizing the Abhorrent Beast’s attack patterns, you’re going to want to use a long weapon to thrust attack after each of its long-animation attacks. It’s important to note that you shouldn’t attempt to attack the Beast after every one of its melee moves, only those that cause him to remain stagnant for a second or two afterwards. The best way to get one of these thrust attacks in is to quickly dash towards the Abhorrent Beast and subsequently press R1. Even though there are a couple of stages to this fight, using this technique very conservatively will eventually lead to victory. Those who prefer to use faster, shorter weapons can focus on dodging to the Beast’s left after each of his attacks, though the window for offense is quite small here and will often result in a great deal of player damage being taken. We definitely advise using the more conservative tactic with a long-range weapon.

If you take your time and play conservatively, this once difficult boss becomes a bit easier. If you’ve been following our boss guides up to this point, you only have one boss remaining, so sit tight and get ready to defeat Yharnam, Pthumerian Queen.
