Originally funded via Kickstarter, it was announced today that AckkStudios' upcoming game Two Brothers will be making its way to the Wii U eShop sometime in 2013. Paying homage to the Game Boy, the game features monochromatic graphics and very similar sound effects; just watching the first three seconds of the trailer alone is sure to ignite flashbacks of buying AA batteries. Luckily, unlike the Gameboy, the game will be in full HD (while still adhering to limitations of the console) and use the lack of color as the main element of the story. With an item based combo system, time based action puzzles and unique NPCs, the game is much in the vein of The Legend of Zelda or The Secret of Mana.

Originally not designed for Wii U (the game will also be available on PC, OSx or Xbox 360), it caught the eye of Nintendo after an interview with the developers about Nintendo's lack of indie support. It's great to see Nintendo actively seeking out these innovative games -- a pattern that will hopefully continue long into the Wii U's existence.
