Last friday, Shigeru Miyamoto headed over to Spain to accept the prestigious Prince of Asturias Award. Greeted on the street by numerous media, fans and even dancers, Miyamoto was treated like royalty. When he arrived at the theatre to accept the award, surrounding residents hung banners on their balcony that read  "Congratulations Miyamoto" and decorated their windows with mushrooms. Thousands greeted him on the street, including a bagpiper reception, before he accepted the award infront of packed theatre. Afterwards, Shigeru even got to meet with Prince Felipe himself.

Awarded by a foundation the Prince heads up, the Prince of Asturias foundation awards are given to those around the world who make notable achievements in the sciences, humanities and public affairs.  Creating Mario sure seems like a notable achievement to us.
