If you’ve enjoyed the overreaching level of senseless, yet convivial levels of mayhem, sexual innuendos and pure comedic relief emitted in Saints Row: The Third, you may want to savor all you can in the soon to be released Saints Row IV, because according to an interview with Europe’s gaming outlet Gamereactor, Volition Design Director Scott Phillips says while the series is likely to continue, some of the familiar elements of the series may be taking it’s leave.

"We're definitely considering Saints Row IV sort of the end of that saga of this character and the Saints as they are,” Phillips said.

“So if there's any more future Saints Rows - which you know we always hope there will be, we hope there's fans for future games like that - they will probably continue in a different direction."

Little does Phillips know, he has unlocked a Pandora’s box of speculation and unanswered questions. What exactly is this different direction? Does it still include the Saints? Are further iterations of the series still capable of triggering laughter or will the developers at Volition be taking the game to a more serious tone? Pray tell, Phillips—will the luxurious theme of purple and gold remain?

Unfortunately, speculation is all we can take a gander at right now. Aside from Philips merely hinting at the idea of a totally different Saint’s Row, no one else at Volition has commented on this, and meh—why should they? I’m pretty sure gamers can wait to delve into the cloud of unknowing after kicking ass and taking names with the dubstep gun, while running around completely nude in the of Saint’s Row IV.
