Over the past five days, Hardcore Gamer has revealed its Best of E3 2017 Awards. All good things must come to an end and today we're proud to present you with our Game of Show.

Marvel's Spider-Man

Insomniac Games have been the developers on a number of amazing franchises. Spyro the Dragon, Ratchet & Clank, Resistance, Fuse and Sunset Overdrive are all their babies. While the majority of them were fun, only a handful of them could be deemed as award-worthy. Sure, they’re fun, but they aren’t going to blow anyone away. Marvel’s Spider-Man, however, is shaping up to fall into the first category. Insomniac and Sony teaming up with Marvel to create a Spider-Man game sounds amazing on paper, and, after seeing the game played live for us, is amazing in practice.

Building upon the parkour mechanics of Sunset Overdrive, Marvel’s Spider-Man gives players complete control of Spider-Man’s unique physical and parkour abilities. Combat is fast and fluid, allowing players to dodge and weave as they deliver blow-after-blow. Stealth remains a viable option for more cautious players by giving them a wide array of takedowns and gadgets to mess around with. Then there’s the web-swinging through New York City, which would be enough to sell this game. Whether swinging or web-zipping, getting around the city is going to be a fast and visually spectacular experience. Best of all, Insomniac didn’t fake anything they showed to the public. After seeing the game being played in front of us, we can say that the game is just as fast, fluid and fun as what they showed at the E3 press conference.

After experiencing all that E3 2017 had to offer, nothing came close to exciting us as much as Marvel’s Spider-Man did. Insomniac has managed to create the first Spider-Man game in more than a decade that will make players feel like the titular hero, and though we still have a while before release, we can’t wait to play more.
