There’s only one thing better than playing games and that’s collecting every piece of merchandise tied to them. There was nothing like flipping through your favorite gaming magazine and seeing a profile of a limited edition collectible or discovering a piece of memorabilia from a beloved game in an overlooked corner of a shop and it’s a feeling we strive to replicate every month as we look through our own collector’s cabinet and dig out items new and old to show the world.

Amnesia: Memories arrived in English back in 2015 for the PS Vita. This was an early release from Idea Factory International, as back in the day Idea Factory used to have other companies such as Aksys Games publish their otome visual novels in English rather than handling it themselves. Now they’re regularly releasing titles such as the Hyperdimension Neptunia series, as well as increasingly many visual novels, on their own which is monumentally exciting to see.

While Vita was a beloved console to those who had one, the system was sadly short-lived. Fortunately, Idea Factory have brought back Amnesia: Memories for Switch -- both to the chagrin of existing fans and excitement of otome fans who never had an opportunity to play it before. In an even better twist, they also brought over Amnesia: Later x Crowd which never received an English release until this port. Idea Factory offered the Amnesia Limited Edition as a way to give fans a special version of either or both releases.

What’s included with the Amnesia Limited Edition? No matter which game you opted to get packed with it, everyone received a steel game case, an art book, the game soundtrack on CD, a bromide card set and an IFI trading card alongside a copy of at least one of the Amnesia games. This all was housed within a gorgeous collector’s box that itself had an embossed sleeve slipped over the top. It’s a luxurious-feeling limited edition. The only downside is that there couldn’t have been an additional pack-in such as a poster or pin set, as we’ve seen with some other otome special editions and serve as fun collectible extras.

The steel game case -- like everything else in this collection -- features dreamy artwork. One side is in fact the cover art of Amnesia: Later x Crowd, though the other side isn’t a copy of the original Amnesia: Memories art. Open it up and you’ll find two cartridge slots ready to house both games. The case itself is similar in size to a typical Switch case, just beefier and overall much cooler. Note that whether you opted for one or both games, the standard Switch versions of the game(s) are not able to fit within the Limited Edition box. They’re shipped additionally, outside of it.

The soundtrack is titled “Melodies of Forgotten Memories” and includes two CDs. The first disc features 19 tracks from the original Amnesia: Memories. Disc 2 brings together 4 tracks from Amnesia: Later and 11 tracks from Amnesia: Crowd. All in all, it’s a great mix of music from the series. At least, for those of us who still have a means to play audio off CDs. Both discs are housed in a jewel case with insert rather than those cheap-feeling cardboard digipacks.

Then there’s the “Recollections Art Book.” There are nearly 60 pages of content which range from early concept art, CG screenshots and much more. As usual, if you are sensitive to spoilers then it's best to avoid perusing the art book until you’ve completed the game. Also included is a series of 15 bromide cards featuring the main men in different outfits. One of the cards has a typo on its text, but my package included a duplicate card with the text corrected. Great to see they at least caught it before shipping out the Amnesia Limited Edition.

Let’s not forget that the standard Switch editions of the game actually both feature a reversible cover. This is also the case if you just pick up a physical copy of the games, but it’s a fun little perk of owning a physical copy. The IFI trading card was not included in the box either, but packed on outside. It features the romanceable leads of Amnesia depicted as cute chibis and is called “Husbando Idols.” This card is much smaller than the bromide cards. Any time you purchase a game from Idea Factory International you’ll get an associated game card to collect.

During the pre-order period, folks could select to get the Amnesia Limited Edition alongside a copy of Amnesia: Memories, Amnesia: Later x Crowd, or opt for the Amnesia IFI Online Store Bundle that included both titles. While the latter was the most expensive at $124.99, it was a small price to pay for lovers of the series. Since then, though, only the Amnesia: Memories edition still remains available for $84.99. Given how readily the rest sold out, fans should swing by IFI’s Online Store if they’re still interested.
