There’s only one thing better than playing games and that’s collecting every piece of merchandise tied to them. There was nothing like flipping through your favorite gaming magazine and seeing a profile of a limited edition collectible or discovering a piece of memorabilia from a beloved game in an overlooked corner of a shop and it’s a feeling we strive to replicate every month as we look through our own collector’s cabinet and dig out items new and old to show the world.

Back in 1996, Sega released an arcade shooter that would become iconic in the gaming realm. This game was of course The House of the Dead. The lightgun game had players shooting hordes of zombies and (hopefully) saving civilians along the way. It was tremendously fun to play alone or with a co-op partner and also featured amusing voice acting. It was ported to consoles and continued its domination of the lightgun shooter genre. Many sequels were released over the years, including the infamous The Typing of the Dead which reworked the game with typing-based shooting.

Newer releases of the series have continued to come out in the decades following the very first release, even as the lightgun genre itself has waned outside of arcades. Newer releases such as The House of the Dead: Overkill allowed full playthroughs with more typical gaming controls since modern TV sets don't work well with lightguns. With that said, there’s something to be said for the pure joy of playing the original game. That’s what makes The House of the Dead Remake such a fun release. The physical release on Nintendo Switch comes in a special edition with a superbly punny name: The House of the Dead Remake Limidead Edition.

So what all is included with the Limidead Edition? This isn't some hyper-expensive release so it includes a handful of small additions. First off, a copy of The House of the Dead Remake game for Switch is of course here. The Switch case is housed within a slipcover that features a cut-out on the front. The cut-out area shows off the lenticular graphic featuring three zombies busting through a door, arms outstretched toward the player. The lenticular is the same height and length as a Switch case, which makes sense since it needed to fit inside the Switch slipcover.

Once you pull the slipcover off you’ll be able to access the lenticular as well as the rest of the included contents. Also packed in are character stands and a sticker sheet. There are two cardboard character stands included. Each features a different zombie design from the game and The House of the Dead Remake logo at the bottom. Fans of the series could easily use these as decorations on a shelf or desk. The sticker sheet features one zombie, two bats and a few other designs.

The House of the Dead Remake Limidead Edition could have been more extravagant, but that would have come with a much higher cost. The thing about this version of the game is that it basically the version you’ll be buying if you pick it up off the shelf. The price coincides with this, as the suggested retail price is just $39.99. Given that this is in fact cheaper than a typical Switch release, it’s exciting to see that it comes with any extra pack-ins at all.

The key to remember with this edition of the game is that it's not a typical special or collector’s edition that you may be used to. Instead of being a super overpriced edition with a variety of items that may have no practical use, you’re getting bonus content with your base purchase of a physical copy of The House of the Dead Remake. The House of the Dead Remake Limidead Edition releases on June 14.
