It’s hard to find great indie games on Steam Greenlight when the service is so inundated with garbage. To mitigate this, our discerning staff works tirelessly to find the very best games and bring them to our Greenlight District. Here they are displayed for your perusal and consideration. We hope you enjoy this week’s selection.

CAVECAVE

CAVE! CAVE! DEUS VIDET. Episode 1 (Greenlight)

This adventure game/visual novel, inspired by the works of 16th century Dutch painter Jheronimus Bosch, is a feast for the eyes. Translating from Latin to "beware, beware, God sees," Episode 0 of this visual trip is available for free on cavecavedeusvidet.com and is rightfully the holder of several art awards.

ETHEREAL

Ethereal (Greenlight) (Kickstarter)

I've been following Ethereal for a while and am beyond excited to finally feature it on Greenlight District. A dark puzzle-platformer with beautifully detailed pixel art environments and models, Ethereal puts you in control of a spirit who is abrubtly thrust back into the land of the living. You'll have to relive his seven most painful memories and guide him through terrifying levels using seven puzzle-solving abilities, ranging from gravity-reversal to animal possession.

REDCOBRA

Red Cobra (Greenlight) (Kickstarter)

Red Cobra is another visually striking game with beautiful backgrounds and tense vertical- and horizontally-scrolling shooter action. The art is stellar, be it for the deceptively 3D models, the beautiful boss design or the fantastic and diverse environments. If you need your fix of bullet-dodging, baddie-exploding mayhem, here's where you'll find it. You can back the game now on Kickstarter, where $15 will net you a copy.

PINSTRIPE

Pinstripe (Greenlight)

Pinstripe is a dark and detailed platformer that takes place in heaven, hell and in-between. Thomas Brush, the creator of Coma and Skinny, has envisioned Orpheus' descent to Hades with incredible art direction and a soundtrack full of wonder and tension to create an extremely promising product. Armed with a blunderbuss, you'll be tasked with navigating the afterlife to find your lost spouse.

FORWARDSKY

Forward To The Sky (Greenlight)

Adorable 3D action-platforming awaits in Forward To The Sky. With a cutesy anime aesthetic - the protagonist is an ponytailed chibi in an armored gown with an oversized sword - alongside bright, colorful environments and upbeat soundtrack, it looks to be a fun little adventure. You have to discover the story behind the mysterious Sky Tower, formerly a place of great prosperity which vanished almost overnight, by collecting crystals at vertiginous heights.
