Although E3 2019 had a persistent feeling of lacking some of the usual wonder of the convention -- with Activision, EA and Microsoft not having a presence on the show floor -- and PlayStation skipping the show altogether, foregoing their typical massive booth and press conference, there were still a number of surprises and impressive things on show. One of the biggest surprises of E3 2019 of course came as the week began, with Keanu Reeves suddenly taking the stage during the Xbox press conference to reveal that he would be part of the highly-anticipated Cyberpunk 2077 -- a role that we later found out would be substantial in the game. All the press conferences featured some excitement with Square Enix showing off well-received footage of Final Fantasy VII Remake, Ubisoft debuting a several titles and expanding on a few already known, and Bethesda announcing the intriguing GhostWire: Tokyo and Deathloop.

The show floor itself had a number of appealing games, with Nintendo boasting hands-on gameplay with the latest Pokémon, Zelda and Luigi's Mansion, as well as strong showings for games like Psychonauts 2 and Doom Eternal. Smaller indie titles also had an impressive showing this year with games like John Wick Hex, Cris Tales and Maneater looking as appealing as they did unique. E3 2019 might not have been the most memorable E3 ever, but there were a number of great titles shown, which we've recognized below in our Best of E3 2019 awards.
