The 3DO might be more of a niche console, but there remains a fanbase to this day. One thing that does not remain to this day is the functionality of 3DO disc drives. Unfortunately, as the years go on, many more are failing. If your system's disc drive no longer functions, you may want to invest in an optical drive emulator (ODE). These typically allow users to play game backups off a SD card rather than physical disc in the drive.

The newest ODE comes in an external and internal model. Even so, both versions are pretty plug and play and don't require you to solder anything to the 3DO board. The external version is called the X-Port and costs $100 more than the FZ-1 internal version. The two devices cost $350 and $250 respectively. Note that the external X-Port works with all 3DOs, while the internal only runs with FZ-1 models.

Pre-orders for the first batch are currently open on 3DO.dev for the X-Port and FZ-1 model.
