Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered's 1.08 patch added something insidious alongside numerous fixes.

Patch 1.08 was destined to bring some highly sought fixes to Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered. Spawns, the Killcam, and a bunch of other problems have finally been addressed. That's exciting, but what isn't exciting is finding out that a handful of new weapons have been added to the already controversial Supply Drop system. Indeed, Patch 1.08 will likely go down as the day that Call of Duty: Modern Warfare Remastered jumped the shark.

Activision and Raven Software managed to sneak in three new weapons that can only be unlocked via the game's RNG Supply Drop system. There's the KAMCHATA-12, a fully-automatic Russian shotgun; the XM-LAR, a European fully-automatic assault rifle; and the .44 Magnum. Also included in the update are new Weapon Kits, melee weapons, and customization items.

This is not the first time that Activision and Raven Software have stealthily and unceremoniously added RNG Supply Drop content to Modern Warfare Remastered. The much hyped December Update was advertised to only add in the six missing multiplayer maps. However, when the update finally did launch, players were unpleasantly surprised to find that Supply Drops had been added to the game. Similar tactics were used in Call of Duty: Advanced Warfare and Call of Duty: Black Ops III, though neither of those were remasters of a nine year old game. Why Activision and Raven Software couldn't have just released the definitive edition of Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare is unknown.

Thanks, Charlie Intel!
