With the new year right around the corner, it's no wonder that a collection of new themed items are on their way to Nintendo's latest mobile sensation. Animal Crossing has always celebrated various holidays with fun new items to be collected and now players can prepare themselves for the upcoming new year. The official Japanese twitter for Animal Crossing posted a small image looking through the eyes and mouth of the iconic Gyroid, and inside it looks like a villager is enjoying bringing in the new year in traditional Japanese style. While this tease doesn't confirm anything definitively for the western version, most Animal Crossing titles have received traditional Japanese items in addition to including more globally recognized ones like fireworks or sparklers.

Players will likely be able to expect this update toward the end of December or even on New Years Eve, but there no confirmed release date for it just yet. For a closer look at the New Years tease, check out the image below:
