Apple has announced the next-generation of Apple Watch, Series 2.

Apple COO Jeff Williams took the stage at Apple's press conference today to announce Apple Watch Series 2, the next-generation of the Apple Watch hardware. Series has been completely re-engineered with a powerful dual core processor that makes Series 2 50% faster than the original models, a brand new GPU that delivers twice the graphics performance, and built-in GPS.

Apple Watch Series 2 features a second generation display that is twice as bright as the previous model. On top of this, Apple has upped the water resistance of Series 2. The new Apple Watch Series 2 models are now swim proof, giving owners the ability to participate in water activities all while recording the activity on their Apple Watch.

In terms of options, Apple Watch Series 2 is available in aluminum, stainless steel, and a new ceramic option. There will also be a special Apple Watch Nike Plus that has been designed specifically with runners in mind and comes with a stretchy band and a lightweight aluminum body. It'll be available this October in four different colors.

Finally, the original Apple Watch models are being rebranded as Apple Watch Series 1. As an added bonus, all future Series 1 models will ship with the same dual core processor coming in Series 2.

Apple Watch Series 2 and Series 1 will be available in two sizes; 38mm and 42mm. Series 1 will be available in gold, rose gold, silver, and space gray aluminum cases starting at $269. Series 2 will be available in gold, rose gold, silver, and space gray aluminum, and silver and space black stainless steel cases starting at $369. The new ceramic Apple Watch Edition starts at $1249. Apple Watch Nike+ starts at $369. Pre-orders begin September 9 with the Series 1, Series 2, and Apple Watch Edition going on sale September 16.
