The interstellar void is going to be just that little bit more dangerous now that Blacksea Odyssey has been funded. With a bit less than three days left on the clock the Kickstarter campaign has cleared its goal, meaning that the monster-whaling roguelike is a go. I was pretty happy with the alpha demo that’s still available from the campaign page, finding that, while it took a bit to get used to, had the soul of a particularly brutal arcade game already in place. The massive enemies are fun to rip apart piece by piece, and finding new runes to upgrade the spear and thrusters allow for some good on-the-fly customization. The campaign hit a bit of a speed bump thanks to Mastertronic going bankrupt in the middle of it, so now the game is being self-published and needs to resubmit to Sony, Microsoft, and Steam for reasons that make perfect sense to a lawyer, but hopefully it won’t be too difficult to get publishing plans back on track. It helps that they’ve got guaranteed funding and a great game in the making, though, so head over to the Kickstarter page and see if you’d like to help the campaign earn a stretch goal or two.
