If there's any doubt left that eSports could one day rival traditional sports, it's pretty much been squashed today. Activision Blizzard CEO Bobby Kotick has revealed seven franchises that will participate in the upcoming Overwatch League: New York, Boston, Los Angeles, San Francisco, Miami, Shanghai and Seoul. Spanning the most major cities in the United States and two of the most major Asian cities for competitive gaming, even more impressive perhaps is who is behind the teams.

New England Patriots Owner Robert Kraft will head the Boston location, while Sterling Equities who runs the New York Mets will take the reigns of the New York spot. The Miami Heat-backed Misfits will run the Miami franchise, NeatEease Inc takes Shanghai and Kabam founder Kevin Chou will run Seoul. Finally, two eSports organizations -- Immortals and NRG eSports -- have secured the Los Angeles and San Francisco spots, respectively. They will pay $20 million dollars each over time.
