Unless you've been living under a rock the past year-or-so -- or, more realistically, just having been keeping up to date on the discussion surrounding developer Boss Key Productions' recent take on the widely-popular "hero shooter" in the form of LawBreakers -- chances are you're more than aware of how the game has pretty much failed to find longevity and activity alike. Despite garnering praise from some at the time of its launch in August of last year, LawBreakers quickly saw a massive dip in its player-base. While we're still unsure on its activity on PS4, a quick look at its current stats on PC, via Steam, doesn't make for easy reading.

Well in their latest blog post today, Boss Key look to have finally admitted -- though they haven't quite gone as far as t actually declare it as such -- that it may be time to move on and the studio have confirmed they are already underway on their next project. While they have stated they will "continue to support the game in its current state", it's unclear to what extent LawBreakers will see any future updates. Though the studio has ruled out the possibility of the game becoming free-to-play. "While a pivot to free-to-play may seem like [the] easiest change to make, a change of this magnitude takes publishing planning and resources to do it.

"The team here has worked hard on this game over the past three and a half years and our studio is determined to give this game the second life it deserves. However, between now and then, we cannot sit idle. We will continue to support the game in its current state, but we also need to focus on other projects with fresh creative leaders. We have been working on something new and we can’t wait to share more about it! It’s a passion project that we’re in complete control of."
