Bungie has detailed its future plans for Destiny on the legacy consoles, PS3 and Xbox 360.

We’ve known for a few weeks now that Destiny: Rise of Iron would not be coming to PS3 and Xbox 360, and that from here on out there would be some big changes made to the these versions of Destiny. Now, Bungie has revealed all the details about what’s going to happen starting August 2016.

While Destiny: The Taken King will still be available on the legacy consoles, but there will be limited access to in-game events. The Trials of Osiris and Iron Banner will no longer be available on PS3 and Xbox 360, and neither will any live events (Festival of the Lost, Crimson Days, Sparrow Racing League, etc.). All of these events will only be available in the PS4 and Xbox One versions.

Legacy console players will still have access to heroic missions and strikes, and daily and weekly Crucible challenges. Furthermore, Xur and his many wares will continue to grace the Tower/Reef on PS3 and Xbox 360, but some items will no longer be available for purchase. This includes individual exotic weapons and armor pieces. Only encrypted and encrypted legacy engrams will be available for purchase.

While it’s sad that PS3 and Xbox 360 players won’t be able to continue forwards, this decision by Bungie and Activision does make sense. Holiday 2016 will mark three years since the current-generation consoles came out, and Activision appears to be finally focusing on them. As of one of the final holdouts, Activision continued releasing games on PS3 and Xbox 306 through 2015, but it appears they’re finally letting go. Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare will also only be releasing on current-gen platforms and PC. Those who want to continue their character can do so by purchasing a console, from the same console-family, and then getting Destiny: The Taken King.

Destiny: Rise of Iron is out September 18 on PS4 and Xbox One.
