Call of Duty: Black Ops III and the Call of Duty brand in general continue to do very well.

Activision has revealed their Q3 2016 financial report where the company did much better than expected. Call of Duty: Black Ops III was one of the reasons they did so well. Activision has four of the top ten games on current-gen consoles, and Call of Duty: Black Ops III is sitting at the very top. Treyarch's third entry in it's highly successful sub-franchise is drawing record number of players with the Million Monthly Active Users for the third quarter reaching a record high for Activision.

The publisher is also earning a ton of money from Season Passes, a-la-carte map packs, and the infamous microtransactions. Though Activision didn't provide any numbers, they did note that microtransaction purchases doubled year-to-date. This likely means that we won't be seeing an end to Supply Drops in future Call of Duty games.

Finally, the company's Call of Duty XP fan event was said to be the largest it had ever put on. Once again, no numbers were given. The Call of Duty World League Championship finals took place at the event. In total, 1000 teams participated in the 2016 season, which recorded 121 million views. The Call of Duty World League Championship will return in 2017.

This all bodes well for the future of the Call of Duty franchise. However, it'll be up to the next game in the franchise, Call of Duty: Infinite Warfare, to carry the torch into the next year. Infinite Warfare is out November 4 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
