Treyarch today confirmed that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII will not feature a traditional campaign, but will instead focus on delivering story elsewhere.

Call of Duty has featured a single player campaign since the franchise's inception. However, rumors suggested that Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII would be the first to ditch the campaign, and that does indeed seem to be the case. While a traditional campaign won't be included in Black Ops IIII, there will still be single player story elements.

As revealed at the Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII reveal event, the story of the game will focus heavily around the Specialists characters playable in multiplayer. Players can participate in solo missions that further explore their backstories. Popular Black Ops III Specialists like Ruin, Seraph, and Firebreaker return alongside brand new Specialists. Story elements will also be relayed to players through multiplayer.

Call of Duty: Black Ops IIII is out October 12 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
