Infinity Ward and Activision have officially announced the brand new Co-Op Extinction mode for Call of Duty: Ghosts.  Yesterday, the mode was leaked with numerous screenshots spreading across the internet.  Today, it has been acknowledged that Extinction is indeed real.  Activision has also put out a trailer showcasing the new mode.

Extinction is Infinity Ward's take on Treyarch's Zombies mode.  It is for 1-4 players and is a unique blend of fast-paced survival action, base defense, scavenging and class leveling.  Players will be dropped into a level infested with aliens and must survive as they destroy pods that most likely birth more aliens.  Obviously, the aliens are out to get you, which brings in the whole survival aspect.

Treyarch's Zombies mode has become a staple of the Call of Duty franchise with Infinity Ward unable to come up with an alternative Co-Op experience for their games.  Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 introduced Spec Ops for 2 players and brought it back in Modern Warfare 3, but those modes never brought out the same excitement Zombies did.  Now with Extinction, Infinity Ward has a chance to win back the Co-Op crown from Treyarch.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is the latest game in the Call of Duty franchise.  This year it's Infinity Ward's turn with the franchise and have crafted a brand new story and characters.  They are also adding the biggest shake-ups to the multiplayer the franchise has seen in a while.

Call of Duty: Ghosts is out November 5 worldwide on PS3, Xbox 360, PC and Wii U.  The PS4 and Xbox One versions will launch alongside the consoles.  Check out Extinction mode below:
