Capcom Officially Announces New Resident Evil Spin-Off, Project Resistance

Capcom today officially pulled back the curtain on the next Resident Evil experience, Project Resistance.

Hoping for Resident Evil 8? What about Resident Evil 3 Remake? Unfortunately, we’re going to have to wait a bit longer for either of those experiences. Instead, Capcom has another team-based Resident Evil title for players to enjoy.

After quite a few teases, Capcom formally announced Project Resistance today. The game features team-based survival horror gameplay with players utilizing a vast array of weaponry to fight off classic Resident Evil monsters. These include zombies, lickers, and even Mr. X. No word yet on what the game’s story is or where it takes place in the Resident Evil universe.

Project Resistance is the latest attempt for Capcom to implement co-op and multiplayer activities into the franchise. While Resident Evil 5 and 6 fared a bit better, the pure co-op titles have received nothing but criticism. Operation Raccoon City was panned for its lack of polish, poor writing, and unexciting gameplay. Umbrella Corps, meanwhile, was just a really bad game. So, hopefully, Project Resistance will turn out much better.

Expect to get more news about Project Resistance at Tokyo Game Show, which kicks off September 12. Project Resistance is coming to PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
