If you had told us that we would have written this headline back in December, when we were calling for the program to be shut down, we would have called you a liar. A dirty liar. Yet here we are in February 2015 and Club Nintendo has indeed crashed from an unexpectedly high amount of traffic and all it took was for Nintendo to actually offer rewards.

As promised, Nintendo today did a giant prize dump on the service, offering multiple new and returning physical and digital rewards to drain its loyal followers of whatever coins they had remaining following last year's mandatory drain of coins.

The site stayed up for only mere hours after the reward section was updated, during that time experiencing major server issues and slow loading.

So note to Nintendo: all you had to do for Club Nintendo to be a success was, you know, actually offer rewards.
