Codemasters Announces F1 2019: Legends Edition Featuring Ayrton Senna vs Alain Prost

If you are a Formula One fan, the rivalry in the 1980s and early 1990s between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost is a key story in the sport’s history. Codemasters is honoring this by including the two drivers and their 1990 cars in F1 2019: Legends Edition. Prost will be driving the 1990 Ferrari F1-90 while Senna will drive the 1990 McLaren MP4/5B. Each player models will also be represented in the game. Prost typically raced with better equipment than Senna while Senna was a more talented driver, especially in wet weather races. Prost amassed 51 victories and 4 World Championships between 1980 and 1993. Senna won 41 races and 3 World Championships between 1984 and 1994 where he suffered a fatal accident on the track. One of these championships came over Prost when they were teammates.

“Fans can see from the new cover art design that F1 2019 has a strong theme of rivalry running through it, just like the main sport itself. As such, we are absolutely delighted to have resurrected F1’s greatest ever rivalry between Ayrton Senna and Alain Prost,” said Paul Jeal, F1 Franchise Director at Codemasters. “Their rivalry began right back in the 1984 season and reached one of the most dramatic ever climaxes on the first lap of the Japanese Grand Prix during the 1990 season. It’s a rivalry which has transcended way beyond the sport and is regarded as the greatest of all time by F1 fans. We know our community will love that the two legends of the sport have finally been immortalised together in our game.:

Codemasters is now entering its tenth year developing F1 games and are celebrating this with the Anniversary Edition of the game. The Anniversary Edition will include some race winning cars from 2010. These are the Ferrari F10 and McLaren MP4-25. This is in addition of the Red Bull RB6 carrying over from F1 2018. These cars are all included with the Legends Edition. Codemasters will also be doing regional covers if a current driver on the grid is from that particular country. Sebastian Vettel and Lewis Hamilton will be featured globally on the cover, but in places such as France, Vettel will be replaced with Charles LeClerc.

Finally, in what is shaping to be the most additional content to any of the games in the series, the Formula 2 Championship will be included in F1 2019. The full 2018 F2 season will be included with the 2019 season being added later. George Russell, Lando Norris and Alexander Albon will be in the game as drivers will start their career here before traversing to F1. Check out the video below that coincides with today’s announcement. F1 2019 will launch on PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC on June 28 with Early Access beginning June 25.
