The original Crash Team Racing is a beloved classic for many reasons. It had solid mechanics; it had exciting maps; it made great use of the Crash Bandicoot cast of characters and preserved the series manic attitude. It’s a game that will be difficult to top even with the advantage of modern day visuals. Even so, Beenox is doing their best to find ways to make Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled a step above its ancestor. One of these, it seems, is allowing players to go all-out in customizing their karts and racers.
In Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled, players will have full control over their karts, racers and celebrations through the liberal application of cosmetic unlocks. With kart bodies, paint jobs, stickers, wheels, skins and celebrations, players should have plenty to work with. It remains to be seen if these will be largely unlockable or purchased with some sort of in-game currency, but signs are good considering how the Crash Bandicoot ‘N Sane Trilogy and Spyro Reignited Trilogy were handled. Just a few more weeks to go and all will become clear.
Crash Team Racing: Nitro-Fueled launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on June 21.
