The first details have been revealed for the Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled take on the original game’s adventure mode. In a video featured on the PlayStation Youtube channel, Beenox took viewers on a deep dive into the newly-revamped mode and opened the hood on what players can expect to see once the game launches. Longtime fans need not worry, everything that they remember from the PS1 classic is still there, Beenox has just added a little extra is all.
The video was accompanied by a post on the PlayStation Blog penned by Beenox co-studio head, Thomas Wilson. He starts of by saying that all the challenges fans remember are still there. Players will still be racing their way through trophy races, boss races, gem cups, token races and relic races. They’ll also still be able to unlock boss racers along the way like they always could, but now players can unlock things after every race.
Winning races in Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled means earning all manner of customization items and character skins. They’ll also be able to swap karts, custom items and racers in and out at any point in the Nitro-Fueled version of adventure mode. Players who want to experience something closer to the original can play in Classic Mode instead. They’ll still earn stuff, but kart and racer selections cannot be changed after starting. Between this and the wide range of kart customizations available, this is shaping up to be quite the remake, isn’t it?
Crash Team Racing Nitro-Fueled launches for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Nintendo Switch on June 21.
