Dambuster Studios now in Charge of Dead Island 2

THQ Nordic today announced that Dambuster Studios has taken over the troubled development of Dead Island 2.

Dambuster Studios (formerly Crytek UK and, before that, Free Radical) has a new task, guide  a game in development hell to release. THQ Nordic, who bought parent company Deep Silver, have put the studio in charge of Dead Island 2. Furthermore, the studio is now in charge of the entire Dead Island franchise going forward. THQ Nordic made the announcement during the company’s Q1 Earnings Call.

“We have entrusted Dambuster Studios with the Dead Island franchise, bringing the development of this key franchise to one of our internal studios. They are now leading the development of Dead Island 2.”

Dead Island 2 has been stuck in development hell since the franchise’s creators, Techland, left the series behind to create Dying Light. Since then, the game has gone through two developers, Yager Development and Sumo Digital. First announced at E3 2014, Dead Island 2 takes place in California. The game would take players to famous California locales, including Santa Monica Pier and Hollywood. Whether that’s still the case after all these years is a mystery.
