For whatever reason, the PC version of Dark Souls -- dubbed "Prepare to Die Edition" -- was released exclusively on Games for Windows Live. As nobody likes to use Games for Windows Live, however, it's been quite frusturating for diehard players of the series to get their death on. Admist rumors earlier this year that GFWL would be shutting down, Bandai Namco announced plans to explore other options. Those plans have today come to fruition, with the publisher announcing that the game will be migrated to Steam.

GFWL users will be able to redeem their Games for Windows Live Tokens on Steam to get Dark Souls: Prepare to Die Edition at no additional cost. The game itself, saves and achievements will be transferred over.

The migration period will begin sometime in November 2014 with more specific dates to come. Hopefully this doesn't mark the last GFWL to Steam conversion so that whole platform can finally die a slow and painful death -- much like you'll be doing in Dark Souls on Steam.
