Dino Run was one of the original endless runners, with a small dinosaur running from an wall of doom hot on its tail, and Dino Run DX was the final version.  Better art, more events, more levels, more hats, and plenty of other features were added to change it from a web-based flash game into a standalone product.  It's done rather well for itself on Steam in the three years its been there, but the base game is still a decade old and it's time for a sequel.  Dino Run 2 went to Kickstarter a few weeks back and, while progress is slow the game has just about made it to the base goal.  There's a long road ahead, though, so as a promotional offer for one week Dino Run DX is going pay-what-you-want on itch.io.

The Kickstarter goal is $20,000, and will easily make that, but this is a minimum and funds a single step in production.  Games are expensive things to create, and while $20,000 takes Dino Run 2 through the preproduction stage the real hoped-for goal would be $65,000 to finish the engine, nail the physics and player handling, and finish a single feature-complete and polished level.  The Kickstater is going to be a very nice step on the way but won't be clearing this goal, so Dino Run DX is on sale to raise both funds and awareness for its sequel.  Grab it for free, toss the developer a few bucks, pay $10,000 because you've got more money than you could ever possibly know what to do with; whatever seems fair.  It's all going to a good cause, which is bringing the pixel art of Dino Run 2 to life.

Dino Run DX is available on itch.io.
