Steam's weeklong sales have been largely underwhelming recently, and that trend continued this week, with some notable exceptions.

  • The Showdown Effect - $6.79
  • Zombie Tycoon II - $1.99
  • Humanity Asset - $0.99
  • Volt - $2.39
  • Street Racing Syndicate - $2.49
  • Retro Game Crunch - $9.89
  • Saturday Morning RPG - $2.44
  • Inversion - $3.99
  • Super Killer Hornet - $2.49
  • Grimind - $2.49
  • Movie Edit Pro 2014 Plus - $49.99

With several dozen games on sale, it's pretty clear that pickings are a bit slim. The Showdown Effect being under $7 makes it an easy recommendation for lovers of run and gun shooters, while the online multiplayer means that if you love the competitive side of FPS gaming, but prefer side-scrolling shooters, you'll get a lot of use out of it. Street Racing Syndicate is dirt-cheap, and a fine PS2-era racer for a minimal fee. Retro Game Crunch looks like a fun time if you want to go on an 8-bit nostalgia trip, although with only a 34% discount, it's not so heavily-discounted that it becomes impossible to resist at this price.

Saturday Morning RPG is a charming turn-based RPG with a heavy emphasis on references and snappy writing. If you grew up in the early '90s, you'll adore this game. Super Killer Hornet, like SMRPG, is something I enjoyed on the OUYA and highly recommend at this price point. It's a well-crafted vertical shooter with a lot going on, excellent music, and math built seamlessly into the gameplay.
