Plenty of speculation has arisen since the day the remake of Resident Evil 2 was announced back in 2015. With the reveal officially happening, Capcom has unveiled what to expect with this game. The original released back in 1998 featured fixed camera angles and two separate campaigns that intertwined. The modern "reimagining" will play differently than this initial setup to help keep up with modern day gaming. The game will release on January 25, 2019 for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and Windows PC.

The trailer that was shown during the conference looked magnificent as the game will run on Capcom's proprietary RE Engine. This was the same engine that Resident Evil 7 ran on, so expect lifelike player models and excellent lighting and backgrounds. The initial zombie in the trailer looked incredibly real. The question that fans have been waiting has been answered. It will not play with a fixed camera angle or with a first-person view. This fresh take on the game will feature a new over-the-shoulder camera, which this view can be seen in the trailer with Leon walking towards the police station. It looks to sit a little bit lower as his pace seemed slow, which is what this game needs.

Resident Evil 2 introduced characters who would become a mainstay throughout the long running series. Claire Redfield and Leon S. Kennedy would go on to play pivotal roles in other games. Both Leon and Claire have their own separately playable campaigns that will allow players to see the story from both characters' perspectives.

"The press and fan reaction to Resident Evil 2 when we said 'We Do It' in 2015 has been overwhelming. We've been very eager to unveil the new game to the world this week," said Capcom Producer Yoshiaki Hirabayashi. "We want fans to see the reimagining of Resident Evil 2 not only captures the magic of the beloved original, but also expands it to deliver a richer experience. The first look at E3 is just a taste of what's to come."

With the RE Engine, grotesque hordes of zombies are brought to life with a horrifyingly realistic wet gore effect. Zombies will now react in real time as they take instant visible damage. This makes every bullet from the player count. Stunning lighting will bring the rooms and areas of Raccoon City and the police department to life.

Attendees at this year's E3 can get an early preview with the first hands-on demo for the game in Capcom's booth in the South Hall, #2223. Join Leon on his first day on the job at RPD as he explores the station for clues on how to make it out of the nightmare alive.
