During a recent conversation between EA and its investors, EA's Blake Jorgensen revealed that the massive publisher anticipated eighty million current generation consoles sold before the end of the year.

What's more, this call also revealed that EA anticipates that 100 million PlayStation 4 and Xbox Ones will be sold before December 2017. Here is Jorgensen's official statement on the matter:

Our internal estimate is still roughly 80 million units by the end of calendar year and 100 million units by the end of next year, calendar year. And as a note, the install base right now is 33% higher than the previous generation consoles for the first 35 months in the West.

A twenty million console year would certainly bode well for the gaming industry, though it's worth noting that EA is not necessarily altering its projections to include the PlayStation 4 Pro and Xbox One Scorpio. What these devices will mean for the industry is anyone's guess at this point, considering the console landscape appears to be shifting.
