As mentioned yesterday, there have been rumblings of a new Etrian Odyssey installment on its way, despite the fourth entry just releasing last month. Today it has been confirmed that indeed a new adventure is coming, and under the moniker: New Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl. This title will not be a wholly new journey, rather a remake of the first game, but with an altered design approach. Instead of the focus being on very little story, and a lot of dungeon-crawling, Millennium Girl will emphasize a strong central plot with a pre-established cast of characters, disregarding the element of character creation and party-building found in the four previous installments. Although the cast is fixed, players will reportedly still be able to change each character's class in order to train them in different skills and abilities.

As of right now, what we know of this story-heavy addition to the franchise is that it's set in the world of Etria and the title's hero begins the game by being propositioned to explore some mysterious ruins following a few recent earthquakes. Along his journey, he will meet and befriend various party members who will aid him on his epic endeavor. In case you missed it, New Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl is being directed by Etrian Odyssey III director, Shigeo Komori, with music by returning series veteran Yuzo Koshiro, monster designs from Shin Nagasawa and character designs by Yuji Himukai

New Etrian Odyssey: Millennium Girl is set to release in Japan on June 27 for the Nintendo 3DS. No word right now on a Western release, but stay tuned for more details as they come in.
