Independent developer Traxmaster Software today announced that Exception is heading to PlayStation 4, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch and PC this summer.

The 2.5D platformer takes players inside an old woman’s computer after a “totalitarian” virus called the ‘Titan’ has infected it.

Players explore the world of Exception through an unnamed hero, who is tasked with ending the Titan’s terror before the system crashes.

As the hero, players will engage in fast-paced combat in a world that can be rotated to unlock new routes and discover different collectibles.

Drawing inspiration from NES titles, the South Carolina-based studio said that it wanted to combine two-dimensional action with a three-dimensional world to create a “fresh take on the classic platforming experience.”

And Traxmaster has confirmed that the platformer will support online leaderboards, too.

“As a hardcore NES nerd, I feel inspired by games like Ninja Gaiden and Castlevania and feel like simplicity is the key to a great gaming experience,” says Will Traxler, the founder of Traxmaster.

“Exception has this old-school vibe with a modern rotating twist that takes advantage of today’s 3D technology.

“It’s a game which is easy to pick up and play and will bring joy for a novice gamer just as much as it will for a professional speedrunner.”
