The next big thing in Final Fantasy XIV is definitely Endwalker. It's the next major expansion and will be bringing all manner of changes and extra content to the game. Still, there's a lot of time between now and Endwalker's release, and there's still interesting developments coming in Shadowbringers. In fact, the next Shadowbringers content drop is set to hit on May 25.

Patch 5.5 will be going live that day, bringing additions to the main scenario, YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse and the Save the Queen questlines. Specifically, the main scenario will be leading players through their next step on the way to Endwalker and setting the stage for the expansions launch. Save the Queen is getting a new field area, an increased resistance rank cap up to 25, final enhancements for resistance weapons and new, large-scale battle content for Dalriada. As for YoRHa: Dark Apocalypse, it's getting some as yet unspecified story additions.

The launch of Patch 5.5 will also mark the beginning of service for PlayStation 5, with the full release coming after an open-beta period. Indeed, the most exciting stuff is still months away, but that doesn't mean Final Fantasy XIV won't be interesting in the meantime.
