Final Fantasy XV director Hajime Tabata is leaving Square Enix and Luminous Productions.

Last night's Final Fantasy XV stream was not a happy one for Final Fantasy XV fans. Earlier this year, Tabata announced for new DLC episodes that would further build upon the world of Final Fantasy XV. Following Ardyn, Aranea, Luna, and Noctis, the four episodes would bring the story to its ultimate conclusion. Sadly, that plan has been scrapped.

During the stream, Tabata revealed his departure from Square Enix and the recently founded Luminous Productions. In a statement, he did confirm that he already has plans for his next project. Most devastating, however, was the news that three of the four DLC episodes have been cancelled. Only Episode Ardyn will see the light of day. Here are the plans for Final Fantasy XV as of the end of the steam:

  • Episode Ardyn launches March 2019 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC
  • Episode Ardyn Prologue announced, teasers coming December 15, 2018 and January 19, 2019
  • Final Fantasy Multiplayer Comrades standalone announced for PS4 and Xbox One and launches December 12. Costs $9.99, but current owners of Comrades get all new content for free
  • Collaboration with Final Fantasy XIV titled 'Adventurer from Another World' coming to Final Fantasy XV on December 12

Final Fantasy XV is available now on PS4, Xbox One, and PC. We'll let you know should Square Enix make further changes to the Final Fantasy XV roadmap.
