Firaxis Games has grown to become one of the more prominent strategy developers, particularly for their work on the Civilization and XCOM franchises.
While post-release content is likely still in the works for 2016’s Civilization VI, fans are starting to become curious on what the team is working on next. In an interview with Games Industry, 2K president David Ismailer talked about the publisher’s plans in the short and long-term, including new partnerships with external studios, particularly smaller indie teams, as well as a new focus on games as a service. Additionally, Ismailer also revealed that Firaxis was working on a brand-new IP, while reaffirming the studio’s commitment to more Civilization and XCOM titles in the future as well. To quote Ismailer, “We did Civ, then we did XCOM, and now we’re looking hopefully to add one more to that portfolio.” While Ismailer did not mention the genre or release window for this upcoming title, it’s promising to hear that Firaxis is willing to step outside of their comfort zone for their first new series in over five years.
