Video games have a very poor track record when it comes to being adapted into Hollywood films. Some may spark some sense of nostalgia, but most of them fail to become movies that break any barriers between the two formats. Well, it looks like another game will be getting a similar treatment, or at least being explored.

The Hollywood Reporter is reporting today that Campo Santos, the developer behind Firewatch, is teaming up with Good Universe to bring us a film adaptation of this year's walking simulator. Good Universe is a relatively new production company who have the first two Neighbors films, Don't Breathe and 2013's Oldboy under their belt.

“When we met Good Universe we were floored by how they recognize, cultivate and produce incredible stories. It's rare you meet another group that shares so many of your values and makes the process of creating things even more exciting. We can't wait to see what we make together," said Campo Santo founder Sean Vanaman, who announced the deal with co-founder Jake Rodkin and Good Universe’s co-founder Joe Drake and VP international Akshay Mehta.

Despite selling nearly a million copies, the idea of Firewatch Hollywood film is still one of the strangest concepts in recent memory. But hey, nothing has worked yet, so why not take a chance and adapt something a little more indie?

Firewatch hit PS4 and PC in February of this year, with an Xbox One version just last week being released.
