The first two DOOM games will be free for a limited time to Xbox users who pre-order the latest demon-slaying release digitally via the Xbox Store, it was announced today. Both DOOM 1 & 2 will be backwards compatible across Xbox 360 & Xbox One; for those who pre-order, a code for each game will be given within 7-10 days of placing their order. On top of this, players will also get their hands on the Demon Multiplayer Pack, which includes a “unique Demon-themed armour set”, six exclusive metallic paint colours and three id logo patterns for players’ armour and weapons, alongside six Hack Modules which function as “one-use consumable perks”.
The news of the first two games in the ever-popular first-person shooter series follows a recent line of promotions from Xbox in offering previous games in their respective series for free via their backwards compatibility program. Dark Souls, Fallout & Rainbow Six have been the most recent franchises to be a part of this promotion, so it’ll be interesting to see if this is something Xbox will continue to offer for consumers for future titles. The new DOOM will be released for PS4, Xbox One & PC on May 13.
