Following a series of tweets starting last night, Three Fields Entertainment – comprised of former Criterion developers – have confirmed a spiritual successor to the Burnout series is in the works. In an interview with Develop, co-founder Alex Ward confirmed the new game would be coming to current-gen platforms with hopes of developing for VR.
“Our second project will be a racing game,” he explained. “A spiritual successor to one of the Burnout series for PC, PS4 and Xbox One. We aim to support PlayStation VR and Oculus Rift.”
Three Fields haven’t given too much away as to which game specifically the new project will follow. Meanwhile, Criterion – who originally developed and created the racing series – confirmed earlier this week, in a separate response, that they had moved away from Burnout to focus on a brand new multi-vehicle IP that’s still under progress.
