We play video games as an escape from reality. A lot of work goes into creating such an immersive experience and much of it is dedicated to sound production. Annually, the NAMM Foundation recognizes films, companies, television shows, and video games for pro audio and sound recording. Winners receive a TEC award which stands for Technical Excellence & Creativity Awards. They are basically the Oscars of sound production!

Among the nominees for the Interactive Entertainment Sound Production category are four video games. Call of Duty: Black Ops III, Star Wars Battlefront, Fallout 4 and World of Warcraft: Legion are all vying for the top. Each game has quite the pedigree as long-running series as well as competent developers and companies behind them. They're all certainly enjoyable to play and worthy of winning multiple awards but only one goes home with a TEC award.

You can view the entire list of categories, nominees, and sound teams on the official website. The winners will be announced on January 21, 2017 in Anaheim, California.
