Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Software, has confirmed that the next game in the Borderlands franchise has entered development.

Pitchford took to Twitter over the weekend, presumably at PAX East, to confirm that his team is moving forward with the next Borderlands game. Battleborn art director, Scott Kester, has been moved to Borderlands after finishing his work on Battleborn.

The existence of a new Borderlands game isn't exactly surprising. Take-Two Interactive confirmed last year that a new Borderlands game was coming, and that it would current-gen and PC only. We don't know whether this new Borderlands will be titles Borderlands 3 or something else, but we might not have to wait that long to find out. E3 2016 is right around the corner, and its possible we might get some kind of tease. In the meantime, players can check out Gearbox's latest game, Battleborn, when it launches May 3 on PS4, Xbox One, and PC.
