The house that built Borderlands and Brothers in Arms will announce a brand new game for the next-gen platforms this year.  What the game could be remains a mystery.

Gearbox CEO Randy Pitchford confirmed an announcement via Twitter when a fan asked him when we would see an Xbox One game from the studio.  "We're working on next-gen. Platforms TBD. We'll probably announce something later this year," he replied.

The question remains, what is the studio working on?  Borderlands 3 remains the popular guess, and is a fair one.  Borderlands 2 is the best-selling game of all time for 2K Games so the pressure for Gearbox Software to deliver a Borderlands 3 is there.  Plus, the game's last piece of DLC hinted at a potential sequel.

However, we can't forget that the studio has another game in production; Furious 4.  Originally unveiled at E3 2011, Furious 4 was supposed to be a new entry in the Brothers in Arms franchise, but was later dropped from the franchise as it didn't fit the tone of previous games.  The game has not been seen publicly since E3 2011, though the studio still insists it is coming.  Thus making it a prime candidate to be Gearbox Software's next game.

Hopefully we won't have to wait that long to hear an announcement.  E3 2014 is right around the corner  after all.
