Ghosts, Scream, More Invade Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War, Warzone for Halloween

Treyarch and Raven Software today pulled the curtain back on The Haunting event for Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War and Warzone.

Just like last year, Call of Duty is getting some spooky additions just in time for Halloween. The Haunting event returns with two new guests, a bunch of Halloween themed skins, new challenges, and some spooktakular game modes.

Up first is the Limited-Time Scream Operator bundle, which allows players to unlock Ghostface as a playable Operator. The iconic character comes shortly after the announcement of the upcoming film hitting the silver screen January 2022. There’s also the Donnie Darko Limited-Time Bundle, which unlocks the ‘Frank the Rabbit’ Operator skin for Baker. There’s also a ton of other Halloween themed Operator and Weapon skin packs to peruse during the event.

The Haunting Event across Black Ops Cold War and Warzone plays out similarly to past events. There two sets of 9 challenges, one for each game, that include the likes of Weapon Blueprints, Calling Cards, Charms, and more to earn. Complete all 9 challenges in either set you’ll unlock a new weapon; the LAPA SMG. That’s right, for the first time ever you’ll be able to unlock a brand new ranged weapon during one of these events.

Moving over to Warzone, there’s a new limited-time game mode ready to send a chill down your spine. The Ghosts of Verdansk is a spooky take on the Battle Royale experience where dead players turn into ghosts rather than going to the Gulag. Kill players with their unique abilities and collect three souls to respawn, or complete a finishing move to automatically respawn. The mode also introduces a Fear mechanic where players start experiencing hallucinations the more their meter increases.

Shifting to Black Ops Cold War, the experience starts with Nuketown Halloween, a festive take on the Nuketown ’84 map. There’ll also be limited time modes, including Infected, Prop Hunt Halloween, and new mode Scream Deathmatch where players try to hide and survive player-controlled Ghostfaces.

Call of Duty: Black Ops Cold War is available now on PS5, Xbox Series X|S, PC, PS4, and Xbox One. The Haunting event kicks off tomorrow, October 19.
